Why it matters

The store has to work on a phone, take UPI, and talk on WhatsApp.

Most e-commerce templates were designed for a laptop shopper with a credit card in another country. Kerala buyers are on a phone, paying by UPI, and expecting a WhatsApp message when the parcel ships.

01

Mobile checkout that converts

The checkout is designed on a phone first: fewest fields, address autofill, UPI and cards through Razorpay, cash on delivery where you want it. Every abandoned step is one I have measured and removed.

02

Built for Indian compliance

GST invoices with HSN codes, intra- and inter-state tax handled correctly, and exports to Tally or Zoho Books. Your accountant gets clean data instead of a monthly reconstruction.

03

Yours, with no platform cut

No Shopify subscription, no marketplace commission, no transaction fee beyond the gateway's. A one-time build you own, on hosting you control, that keeps the margin on every order.

Selling online from Kerala

What e-commerce development in Kerala has to account for.

Kerala has a particular set of online sellers: spice, tea and cashew brands shipping across India and abroad; handloom and Kasavu from Kannur and Balaramapuram; ayurvedic products; bakery and snack brands scaling past one outlet; fish and meat delivery in the cities; and a lot of Gulf-facing sellers whose customers are NRIs ordering for family back home. Each has a different shape — perishables need delivery slots, exports need weight-based international shipping, NRI orders need a payer in Dubai and a recipient in Thrissur.

The buyer is on a phone, and the payment is UPI. A checkout that asks for a full address form, a card number and an OTP loses a large share of Kerala buyers before payment. The stores I build get the checkout down to the minimum, put UPI first through Razorpay, offer cash on delivery where the margin allows, and send the order confirmation and tracking to WhatsApp, because that is where the customer will look for it.

Then there is the back office. Every order needs a GST invoice with the correct HSN code and tax split, and the month-end has to reconcile with Tally or Zoho Books without a spreadsheet in between. Stock needs to stay accurate across the website and the physical shop, and for multi-branch sellers, across branches. This is where a template store falls over and where a developer who has built ERP systems makes the difference.

For a single brand with a manageable catalogue, WooCommerce is the right, cost-effective answer and I build it properly — custom theme, not a bought one. For subscriptions, B2B pricing tiers, marketplaces or anything with real order logic, I build on Laravel. I will tell you which in the first call.

Questions

E-commerce Website Development in Kerala — FAQ.

How much does an e-commerce website cost in Kerala?
A custom-designed WooCommerce store costs ₹40,000 to ₹90,000. A custom Laravel store with B2B pricing, subscriptions or multi-branch stock costs ₹1,20,000 to ₹3,00,000. Marketplaces are quoted individually. All prices are fixed against a written scope and include payment, shipping and GST invoicing integrations.
WooCommerce, Shopify or custom — which should I choose?
WooCommerce for a single brand with a manageable catalogue that your team will run themselves — lowest cost, fully yours. Custom Laravel when the order logic is specific: tiers, subscriptions, branches, marketplaces. Shopify is quick to start but charges monthly plus per-transaction, handles Indian GST poorly without paid apps, and keeps your customer data on its platform. I do not build on Shopify for those reasons, and I will explain the trade-off honestly on the call.
Can customers pay by UPI, cards and cash on delivery?
Yes. Razorpay (or PayU, Cashfree) handles UPI, cards, net banking and wallets. Cash on delivery can be enabled by pin code, order value or product. Gulf customers can pay in AED or USD through the gateway's international option where you need it.
Does the store handle GST invoicing?
Yes. Every order generates a GST-compliant invoice with HSN codes and the correct CGST/SGST or IGST split, and the data exports to Tally or syncs with Zoho Books, so your accountant is working from clean records.
Which shipping partners can you integrate?
Shiprocket, Delhivery, Blue Dart, DTDC, India Post and most carriers with an API. Orders push automatically, labels print from the admin, and tracking updates go to the customer over WhatsApp and email. For hyperlocal delivery in Kochi or other cities, your own riders can be managed in the admin.
Can the store send WhatsApp updates?
Yes. Through the WhatsApp Business API the store can send order confirmations, payment reminders, shipping and delivery updates, and abandoned-cart nudges. For many Kerala sellers this is the single feature that most improves repeat orders.
Can I manage products and orders myself?
Yes. The admin is designed for the person who will use it daily — adding products, updating stock, processing orders, printing labels and invoices. Training is included, and bulk import from Excel is set up for large catalogues.
Can it connect to my physical shop's stock?
Yes. For retailers with a shop and a website, stock can be kept in sync — through your existing POS or billing software where it has an API, or through a small stock module built as part of the project.
