Overview
Razorpay is India's most-used payment gateway, supporting 100+ payment methods including UPI, Visa/Mastercard/Rupay cards, all major netbanking banks, Paytm/PhonePe/Amazon Pay wallets, EMI (card and no-cost), pay-later (LazyPay, Simpl), and international cards. I've integrated Razorpay into 40+ production sites — from single-product e-commerce stores to multi-vendor marketplaces to subscription SaaS — with full reconciliation, refund flows, and webhook handling.
Most Razorpay integrations online use the basic checkout — clicking "Pay" opens the overlay, the customer pays, done. Production-grade integration is a different beast: signature verification on every webhook, idempotent order creation, proper handling of payment-pending states, subscription lifecycle (charge, pause, cancel, upgrade, downgrade), partial refunds, settlement reconciliation, and disputes. That's what I build.
My Razorpay integration process
- Discovery (Day 1) — walk through your flow: one-time vs subscription, currency, payment methods to enable, webhook requirements, refund policy, compliance needs (GST, 3DS).
- Keys + sandbox setup (Day 1–2) — create your Razorpay account, generate test and live keys, configure webhooks, set branding (logo, colours).
- Server-side integration (Day 2–4) — order creation endpoint, signature verification on callback, webhook listener with idempotency keys, DB schema for transactions/refunds/settlements.
- Client-side (Day 4–5) — Razorpay Checkout integration (standard, hosted, or custom), pre-fill flows, error handling, retry logic.
- Testing (Day 5–6) — all test cards, UPI sandbox, subscription lifecycle, refund paths, webhook replay, failure scenarios.
- Go-live (Day 6–7) — swap test keys for live, KYC verification assistance, first live transaction, reconciliation dashboard, admin reporting.
