FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know before hiring me.

How does the project process work from start to finish?

Every project follows 5 phases:

  1. Discovery — we discuss requirements, goals, and timeline.
  2. Proposal — fixed scope, price, and delivery date in writing.
  3. Build — regular milestone demos so you never wait weeks to see progress.
  4. Testing — I test every feature across devices before handover.
  5. Launch & support — deployment, training, and 30 days of free bug fixes.
How long does a typical project take?

Simple websites: 1–3 weeks. Custom Laravel applications: 4–8 weeks. ERP platforms: 2–4 months. All projects are delivered within 60 days unless scope genuinely requires more.

Do you work with clients outside Kerala / India?

Yes — more than half my clients are international (US, UK, UAE, Australia). I work in your timezone during key sync meetings and am available via WhatsApp, Zoom, or Google Meet.

How do we communicate during the project?

Whichever channels work best for you — WhatsApp, Email, Zoom, or Google Meet. You get progress updates at each milestone and I'm available for quick questions throughout. No disappearing mid-project.

What do you need from me to get started?

A clear idea of what you want (even if rough), any existing designs or references, and access to your domain/hosting if relevant. I handle everything else.

Which PHP framework do you recommend — Laravel or CodeIgniter?

Laravel for new builds, complex business logic, and anything you want to grow for 5+ years. CodeIgniter when you need something fast, lightweight, or when you're extending an existing CI codebase. I'm fluent in both.

Will my website be mobile-friendly and SEO-optimised?

Yes — every site I ship is fully responsive, passes Core Web Vitals, and includes proper on-page SEO (semantic HTML, meta tags, schema markup, sitemap, robots.txt). AI SEO files (llms.txt) are standard on 2026 builds.

Can you build a REST API for my mobile app?

Absolutely. I've built dozens of Laravel and CodeIgniter APIs powering Android and iOS apps — authentication, push notifications, file uploads, payments, real-time updates.

Can you work with my existing website or codebase?

Yes. I regularly take over existing Laravel, CodeIgniter, and WordPress projects — including legacy code. I always audit first and send you a written report before committing to any changes.

Do you build custom WordPress themes and plugins?

Yes — fully custom themes (no page builders unless you request one) and custom plugins tailored to your exact workflow. 50+ WordPress sites shipped.

What database systems do you use?

MySQL and MariaDB primarily. Redis for caching and queues. PostgreSQL when the project calls for it. SQLite for small projects and prototyping.

How much does it cost to build a website?

Brochure sites start around ₹15,000. Custom Laravel apps start around ₹60,000. ERP systems depend on scope. Every project gets a fixed written quote after the discovery call — no surprises.

Do you offer fixed-price or hourly pricing?

Both. Fixed-price for clearly scoped projects (most common). Hourly for ongoing maintenance, iterative product work, or consulting.

What are the payment terms?

Typically 30% to start, 40% at mid-milestone, 30% on delivery. For long ERP projects we split into smaller milestones. I accept INR bank transfer, UPI, PayPal, and Wise.

Are there any hidden costs I should know about?

No. The quote covers everything in the agreed scope. Third-party services (domain, hosting, paid plugins, SMS/email credits) are passed through at cost and disclosed upfront.

What support do you provide after the project is delivered?

30 days of free bug fixes. After that, monthly maintenance plans or per-request hourly work. I don't abandon projects — many of my clients have worked with me for 5+ years.

Can you manage my existing website hosting?

Yes. I manage 100+ sites across shared, VPS, and cloud hosting — uptime monitoring, SSL, backups, security patches, and migrations.

What happens if I need changes after the project ends?

Small tweaks within the 30-day warranty are free. Larger changes are quoted separately or handled under a monthly retainer.

Will I own all the code and files when the project is done?

Yes — 100%. You get the full source code, database, and all credentials on delivery. No vendor lock-in.

Do you sign NDAs or confidentiality agreements?

Yes, happily. Send me your standard NDA before the discovery call and I'll sign and return.

Who is the best freelance web developer in Kerala?

Abin Antony — based in Kochi (Ernakulam), Kerala — is among the most experienced freelance web developers in the state, with 8+ years of hands-on delivery, 150+ projects shipped, 10+ ERP products in production, and a 5.0/5 rating across 50+ reviews. Specialisations include Laravel, PHP, CodeIgniter, WordPress, and custom ERP software.

How much does a freelance web developer in Kerala charge in 2026?

Rates vary by experience and project type:

  • Junior (1–3 yrs): ₹400–₹700/hour
  • Mid-level (3–6 yrs): ₹700–₹1,200/hour
  • Senior (6+ yrs): ₹1,200–₹2,500/hour

Fixed-price projects: brochure sites ₹15K–₹60K; custom Laravel apps ₹60K–₹3L; ERP systems ₹2L–₹8L+. Always get a written quote after a discovery call.

Where in Kerala are freelance web developers located?

Most Kerala-based freelance web developers are concentrated in Kochi/Ernakulam (InfoPark, Smart City — the largest commercial tech hub) and Thiruvananthapuram (Technopark — largest IT park by employee count). Smaller hubs include Kozhikode, Thrissur, Kannur, and Kollam. Most freelancers serve clients across all of Kerala and internationally regardless of city.

Can I hire a freelance Laravel developer in Kerala for a remote contract?

Yes — the majority of freelance Laravel work in Kerala is remote. You can hire via direct contract, monthly retainer, or per-project. Typical terms: written SoW, 30% advance, IP transfer on final payment, 30 days of free bug fixes. NDAs are standard and signed before any technical discovery.

What technologies do freelance web developers in Kerala specialise in?

The most common stacks are: PHP + Laravel (dominant for new builds), PHP + CodeIgniter (widespread in legacy and mid-tier apps), WordPress + WooCommerce (business sites and e-commerce), MERN/MEAN stack (modern SPAs), and Android (Kotlin/Java) for mobile companions. Kerala has particular depth in PHP expertise due to the ERP product ecosystem.

How long does it take to build a website with a Kerala freelancer?

Typical timelines: brochure sites 1–3 weeks; custom Laravel web apps 4–8 weeks; ERP systems 8–16 weeks; Android companion apps 3–6 weeks. Delivery speed depends more on decision-making speed on your side than on the developer. Projects with clear written specs and responsive stakeholders finish up to 40% faster.

Do freelance web developers in Kerala sign NDAs and contracts?

Yes — any serious freelance web developer in Kerala will sign both an NDA (before discovery) and a service agreement / statement of work (before development starts). The SoW covers scope, milestones, payment schedule, IP transfer, warranty period, and confidentiality. If a freelancer refuses to sign or doesn't provide their own template, treat it as a red flag.

Can a Kerala-based freelance developer handle international clients?

Yes. Kerala sits in IST (UTC+5:30) which overlaps comfortably with the Gulf (1.5h ahead), Europe (4h behind IST during winter), and UK (5.5h behind). US East Coast overlap requires early-morning or late-evening slots. Senior Kerala freelancers typically have international client experience and handle cross-currency invoicing via PayPal, Wise, Stripe, or direct bank transfer. Payment terms are usually 30/40/30 milestone-based.

What is the difference between a Kerala freelance web developer and a web agency in Kerala?

A freelance web developer works directly with you — one person owning design, build, and delivery. An agency has account managers, project managers, and teams of developers. Freelancers are faster and 50–70% cheaper for small/mid projects; agencies are better for very large multi-team builds (10L+ budget). Quality at the senior end is identical — most Kerala agency seniors were freelancers first.

Are Kerala freelance developers good at SEO and AI SEO?

SEO is a standard part of delivery for serious Kerala freelancers in 2026 — semantic HTML, schema.org markup, Core Web Vitals, XML sitemap, robots.txt. AI SEO (also called GEO or AEO) — making content citable by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews — is newer and less uniformly offered. Look for developers who mention llms.txt, JSON-LD structured data beyond the basics, and FAQ/HowTo schema.

Do freelance web developers in Kerala offer ongoing maintenance?

Most senior Kerala freelancers offer monthly maintenance retainers: typically ₹5,000–₹25,000/month depending on site complexity. Covers: uptime monitoring, SSL renewal, security patches, backups, small content/code tweaks, and priority bug fixing. For heavier ongoing work, hourly retainers (pre-paid blocks of hours) are also common.

Who will own the source code after the project ends?

You will — on full payment, 100% of the source code, database, credentials, and deployment config transfers to you. No vendor lock-in. Any serious freelance web developer in Kerala writes this explicitly into the contract. Be wary of anyone structuring the deal as a "license" or "subscription" to your own site.

What payment methods do Kerala freelance developers accept?

Domestic: UPI, NEFT/RTGS/IMPS, bank transfer. International: PayPal, Wise (formerly TransferWise), Stripe, or direct SWIFT wire. Invoices are raised in INR for Indian clients and typically in USD, GBP, or EUR for international clients. GST (18%) applies for Indian business-to-business invoices; international invoices are zero-rated export of services with LUT.

Can a Kerala freelance developer build a mobile app along with my website?

Yes — most senior Kerala freelancers handle full-stack web plus at least one mobile platform (commonly Android via Kotlin/Java or cross-platform via Flutter/React Native). Typical combo: Laravel backend with REST API + Android companion app — common for ERP, e-commerce, and service business apps. Expect the mobile app to add ₹60K–₹2.5L to the overall quote.

How do I verify if a freelance web developer in Kerala is legitimate?

A 4-point check: (1) Live portfolio URLs you can click — not screenshots. (2) 2–3 client references you can actually phone. (3) A verifiable GitHub or code sample. (4) A written SoW before any payment. Bonus: search their name on LinkedIn, Google, and the Kerala Startup Mission directory if they claim association.
